Premier Predictor

Reckon you're the next English Premier League super pundit? Well then Footy Mania's Premier Predictor is the place to pit your predicting skills!

The Scoring

OVERALL PRIZE

Every week, you'll have the chance to guess the winner (or draw if you wish) and scorline of three key matches. Once the matches are over, you'll earn points for your predictions. This is how the scoring works:

  • 0 points: For not predicting the winner correctly (Predicting Man Utd will beat Chelsea but Chelsea wins)
  • 2 points: For predicting the winner, or draw correctly
  • 3 points: For predicting the winner and margin of victory correctly (Predicting Chelsea will win 2-1, but Chelsea wins 1-0. You can not get this selection of points for guessing a draw)
  • 5 points: For predicting the winner or draw scoreline correctly (Predicting Chelsea win 1-0 and Chelsea win 1-0)

You could win up to 15 points in a week, or none whatsoever if you've had a bad day.

There will also be bonus matches where double points are availabe. For example, if you correctly guess the scoreline and winner, then you will score 10 points instead of the usual five. However, these matches aren't that often as the bonus game feature is only for extremely important games in the league.

Sign up for Premier Predictor and you stand a chance of winning a football signed by goalscoring legend Ian Rush!

The overall winner of Premier Predictor will receive this football as the overall prize- so this is something you don't want to miss out on! So sign up for Premier Predictor today and get predicting, who knows, you may just get your hands on this brilliant prize!

The Leaderboards

There are two leaderboards: The Overall Competition and the Club Competition. The Overall Competition is a tally of everyone's points throughout the whole of the season, updated after every round. The table includes that person's weekly, monthly and overall points total. The person at the end of the season (i.e. May) who has the most points overall is the winner.

Every month, however, there will be a monthly winner, where the person who collected the most points in that month is announced the winner of the month. It is possible for more than one person to win in that months should their points be tied.

Finally, the Club Competition takes into account everyone's favourite club, and groups them up. As Man United, Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea have the biggest fan bases, they all receive their own clubs, whilst there is a 'Premiership Best' and a 'Best of the Rest' team for the remaining players. Eeach club has their members' points total added up and averaged by the number of players, creating a fair competition. The club with the most average points at the end of the season wins.

The 2006/07 Tie Breaker

At the end of the season, William Tan and Ben Franks were tied on 139 points after nearly ten months of predicting.

This was a Premier Predictor first, and the two were asked to predict the final score and half time score of the UEFA Champions League Final between AC Milan and Liverpool. William went for a Liverpool win, Ben for a draw, and AC Milan's win in Greece ensured a second tiebreaker be needed.

So Wembley Stadium played host to the second tie breaker, the match selected was the Play Off Final between Derby County and West Brom. Again, the two were asked for their full time and half time predictions, and as both went from West Brom wins, both would ahve to wait for another match as Derby took the match 1-0.

One last tie breaker was to be used - England vs Brazil at the new Wembley. This time, along with the full time score, the two were asked to predict the time of the first goal. Both went for Brazil wins, and as the game ended in a draw, their predicted time of first goal was used. John Terry's header in the 68th minute was the actual time of the goal, and William Tan out - predicted his counterpart in predicting the time of the first goal as in the 26th minute, rather than Ben's prediction of the 19th.

So congratulations to William Tan on becoming Footy Mania's third ever Premier Predictor champion!
